How to pick the perfect bouquet of flowers FOR A loved one

One of the most asked questions that we get in our flower shop is, “how do you pick the perfect bouquet for a loved one on their special day?” My initial thought is always, “you just know when you see it.” But sometimes, our wonderful customers prefer a little more explanation. I always end up loving those conversations because I get to know the customer and recipient. Those conversations become the most wholesome and make my day each time!

When you open our websites, you will instantly see the categories all along the top of the home page. The best category to pick first is the category of the occasion that your friend or loved one is celebrating. Let’s say that your loved one is celebrating their birthday, and you don’t see what you prefer in that category, don’t be shy! You have the option to look in every category including Best Sellers or Thinking of You or even jump to something different like Plants! I’ve even found myself in the baby section a few times because my daughter loves pink! We even have fruit baskets!

When I jump on our websites to choose a bouquet for my loved one, I always think of one or two things first…

What is their favorite color or colors and what is their favorite flower?

I also keep in mind at possible allergies. I also always take into consideration if they have cats or dogs (or even kids). I will be debuting a new category of plants and bouquets that are safe for pets on our websites soon!

My go-to category is always best sellers. I feel like best sellers has the most options and the best options because it’s a little of everything from all the other categories. You’ll find the biggest selecton of colors in this category as well.

I also pay attention to what each bouquet is in. A basket might be a safer option when the person has children. A tall glass vase wouldn’t be the best bet in that household. If they have only cats, a basket wouldn’t be the best because there is a chance that they can chew it. Let’s say your loved one has a few cats, I would tell the customer to choose a low cube vase with flowers that aren’t toxic to them. I’d steer clear of any plants because even if not toxic, the cats usually like to chew them either way. If you don’t know the person or their pets well, it’s better to be careful. Let’s say it’s just a single adult in the house; you pretty much can choose anything and everything.

I would try to stick to the specific categories when first picking their bouquet because in the birthday category for example, you have ribbons and mylars and the proper colors and blooms for that occasion. Get Well has a solid mix, but I try to keep the colors muted and not too bold or loud. Thinking of You has a lot to choose from and has an elegant mix of bouquets. Baby categories usually have a lot of blues and pinks. On our social media pages, you can see bouquets being made and going out in real time. If you’re calling to make your choices and place your order, just tell us something that you saw on the website that you like and ask for something similar. Maybe, a good basket arrangement caught your eye, but you prefer it in a vase. Let us know!! We are patient and open to all and any customization!

Sometimes, you really do just feel it. My favorite bouquets that I ordered for myself or my daughter, they are always pink and white or pastel. I do like the different vases and designs, but a good basket arrangement is still one of my all-time favorites! At the end of each order, from designing to delivering, just know that we, Westchester Flower Shop, will take great care of you and your loved one and they’ll get the freshest flowers and in a timely same-day delivery!
