A list of aspca verified safe plants for pets

Now that the holiday season is upon us, I wanted to take a moment to share a list of verified safe plants for furry family members! Each plant listed here is verified as non-toxic according to ASPCA. I personally like all of these plants, so I am happy and relieved to decorate my new home this holiday season while also keeping my little pup safe and sound! I will start with the best one on the list because a lot of people believe that they cannot have Christmas themed plants in their home because of pets, but we can!

1.) Christmas Cactus. This is the most underrated holiday plant. Even though this is non-toxic to animals, please continue to supervise them because eating or chewing on them can be a choking hazard. Eating the leaves can also cause mild stomach upset.

2.) Spider Plant. Spider plants are one of the best plants to have in your home because they are safe for children and pets (as long as they don’t eat them). They do not have dangerous chemicals but can still harm a little tummy. Spider plants also balance indoor dryness and continue to release oxygen during the night. This plant is also low maintenance, and according to NASA, can even purify the air. Keep in mind, the dangly branches cause cats to favor these plants, so sometimes hanging them would be best.

3.) Money Tree. This is a great gift for a housewarming and safe for children and pets and is aesthetically pleasing! The greens are high up, so there’s less of a chance for the animals to eat them.

4.) Orchids. Orchids almost didn’t make the list because even though they are safe, the contents of the pot can cause harm to the animal. If the dog or cat digs into the pot and eats anything inside of the pot, it can be a choking hazard and cause serious blockage in their digestive system. With enough supervision, this is considered a non-toxic safe plant.

5.) Boston Ferns are non-toxic and safe for animals; they are also a wonderful plant to have in your home because they are widely celebrated for their ability to purify the air. They are also very aesthetically pleasing and make a great gift! Boston Ferns are a must have for any plant lover, especially animal lovers and even plant beginners!

6.) Last but not least: African Violet. As with all of the other plants, with enough supervision, these plants make wonderful gifts for yourself or loved ones with animals because they are non-toxic. Just keep in mind, the contents of the pot can be harmful, so do not let them drink any water or play with the fertilized dirt.
